Monday night was CYT Showcase. Rachel talks about it for weeks. Simply stated, Showcase allows each of the classes to "showcase" what they have learned in their ten-week class session in a less than ten-minute production. Family members and friends pack the auditorium to see their budding stars. The CYT KC HEART program is an inclusive program so that typical kids have the opportunity to perform alongside kids who are differently-abled. It does my heart good to see whatall of God's children learn beyond the obvious teaching objectives of singing, dancing, auditioning and performing. If I counted correctly, there were five kiddos with Down syndrome in CYT Showcase and several others with other differing abilities. It warmed my heart to watch the cute little girl gently tug the little boy with Down syndrome into his spot. He just needed a little nudge like we all do sometimes. I loved hearing my own Rachel cheer in her little skit. My heart leaped when I heard Rachel's dear friend Olivia stand tall as she said her lines and her smile warmed the entire sanctuary. My heart brimmed with pride to see sweet Halie who just happens to have Down syndrome in her role as teen assistant. We stopped for our traditional post-showcase Mexican meal and Jonathan showed Rachel the pictures from showcase. She said, "I love CYT!" That made my heart happiest.
